This shrine is dedicated to the divine souls of Emperor Meiji and his consort Empress Shoken (their tombs are in Kyoto).
Meiji-jingu Shrine attracts the greatest number of New Year visitors, counting as many as 3 million during the first three days of the new year.

Although it is inavoidable for crowding, you can enjoy the bustle of Hatsumode (visiting shrine). It is said that all wishes such as safety and well-being of the family, matchmaking (marriage), warding off evil, traffic safety, school success are achieved.
