Continuing from the Edo era, Japan’s most famous “Tori no Ichi” Festival (The Cock Fair)
This year, the number of stalls will be less than usual.
“Tori no Ichi” Festival (The Cock Fair) held every November at Ootori Jinja Shrine in Asakusa has been continuing since the Edo era, the most famous “Tori no Ichi” in Japan.
In 2020, it will be held three times, November 2, 14 and 26.
To the historic “Tori no Ichi” at Ootori Jinja Shrine, more than 700,000 people visit from across the country and is famous for its bustling.
Approximately 150 stalls selling “Kumade” (bamboo rake) which is the lucky charm of prosperous business, and about 750 other stalls line up.
Asakusa “Tori no Ichi” is a rare festival to be held jointly at Ootori Jinja Shrine and neighboring Chokokuji Temple. If you visit both the shrine and the temple, might obtain great divine favor.
“Kumade” is a common practice to buy a bigger one than the previous year, the people will buy a bigger “Kumade” the next year in accordance with the the expanding business. Therefore, when you buy “Kumade” first time, it’s better to choose rather affordable size than big size. We often see that many people are walking aloft “Kumade”, because it is said to be able to collect more fortune in doing so.
