The Grand Sumo Tournament will return to the Ryogoku Kokugikan

“2020 January Grand Sumo Tournament” will be held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan from January 12 to January 26, 2020.

 

In this tournament, young rikishi (sumo wrestlers) such as Sekiwake Asanoyama (朝乃山), who are closest to Ozeki’s position, and Komusubi Abi (阿炎), who have a sense of stability, are expected. Attention is also drawn to whether Takayasu (高安), who has lost his status as Ozeki, can return to Ozeki with more than 10 wins.

 

During the tournament period two days “Kimono day” service will be provided. On January 13 and 20, the first 300 people wearing kimono will receive a hand towel. It is distributed at the entrance from 13:00, and it is finished when the stock runs out.

*Applicable to those who are wearing Kimono, Yukata, Jinbei and Samue. It does not apply when wearing Happi coat or just wearing Japanese style accessories.
