Exhibition “Hokusai × Mount Fuji”
All the works of Hokusai’s masterpiece “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” and “One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji” are exhibited
Hokusai’s masterpiece “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji”, followed by published “One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji”. An exhibition with these two works will be held at the Sumida Hokusai Museum.
“Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” is a series of 46 works depicting Mt. Fuji of different appearance depending on the season, time, weather and place. It is said that the genre of landscape painting was established in Ukiyo-e.
“Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” are colorful, while “One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji” is a monochrome color tone. Ukiyo-e painted with tint of ink have a distinctive world view coupled with the theme.
A total of 148 works are replaced three times during the exhibition, and you can enjoy the various forms of Mt. Fuji which have melted into the lives of Japanese people long ago.
