First full-scale retrospective exhibition in Japan

Thomas Ruff (born in 1958 in Zell am Harmersbach, Germany) studied photography with Bernd and Hilla Becher at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Andreas Gursky and Thomas Struth. He is the presence that has led the modern photographic expression 1990 later age.

The huge portrait (about 2 meters high) that published in his early stage was attracting attention. After that, architecture, urban landscape, nude,  celestial bodies and the photo of various themes, he have presented a unique vision of the world that surrounds the modern people the way through them.

Not only his own photography, a digital image that circulates on the Internet and the old photographs that collection, he has been exploring the possibility of a new photographic expression by using any photo image on the material.

This exhibition is able to see the latest installment of the first public and the early works of Thomas Ruff.
