The world of Bakin’s novel that drawn by popular Ukiyo-e artists such as Kuniyoshi and Kunisada

Kyokutei Bakin is known as the author of the best seller of the Edo period, “Nanso Satomi Hakkenden” (The Story of Eight Samurai).

His masterpieces “Nanso Satomi Hakkenden” and “Chinsetsu Yumiharizuki” (The Adventure Story of Minamoto-no Tametomo) were also drawn in the world of Kabuki and Ukiyo-e, and gained popularity. Utagawa Kuniyoshi and Utagawa Kunisada also painted a number of Ukiyo-e prints which made the theme of this two novels.

In celebration that this year is 250 years of birth of Bakin, 80 works drawn on subjects of his novels will be exhibited.
