The first show of masterpieces! “Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido” that was drawn 30 years earlier than Hiroshige

Speaking of “Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido”, the work drawn by Utagawa Hiroshige is very famous, but Katsushika Hokusai also drawn the “Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido” series about 30 years ago from Hiroshige. The number of works was surprisingly high among the painters of those days, which shows that his work was popular.

While Hiroshige’s “Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido” was drawn mainly on landscapes, Hokusai’s works painted a lot of customs of each land on a small-sized screen.

This exhibition introduces Hokusai’s “Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido” at various angles.
